Another question.... May 14, 2006 - 13:15:52
So I went out with my brother on Friday night and it turned out suprisingly fun! Yeah. However, evertime I was introduced as "Adrian's Sister" everyone was like "What the #$%^ ?!, Adriand has a sister?!". So the evening went. Additonally, when we went to a dance club I started dancing (anyone who knows my kind of dancing will understand) with one of my brother's friends. However, half way through the song he put his hands up and said..."Holy shit, I can't do this....the only thing that's going through my head is that YOU'RE ADRIAN'S LITTLE SISTER!". Which was really sad b/c I was using him as a cock block from the numerous other guys trying to hit on me.

So,in the afternoon the next day we had Adrian's graduation ceremony which actually went quite nicely. They had bagpipes parade the academia in and the speakers were quite nice. Except the student speaker...she lacked pazzaz. What was really interesting about the main commencement speak was this: he was a political science (tenured) professor at UWGB and he retired at the age of 55 to then start up and be a co-founder of a science-fiction magazine AND THE SCI-FI NETWORK! He was a really entertaining speaker.

Then we went out for dinner at a "grill-your-own-steak house". 17.50 for any steak you want from the fridge (they had a huge variety you got to pick your own) and unlimited access to the salad and bake potator bar. The entire time I was thinking this is what's wrong with America and thank goodness for it! It was one of the best meals I've had in a longtime and considering I hadn't eaten all and I figured why not go all out. I was so full that I seriously (yes I am serious) felt drunk. It was the best freshes steak I've had in a LONG time and damn ther services was excellent. Amen for American obesity.

Which reminds that although I have a very nice weight right now, I need to start working out again.

So here's the question of the day: Should I get a gym membership (which I can get for pretty cheap) OR should I just do my own program between running and swimming. Please keep in mind that the gym in the same building as my work and but my work has a lot of time constraints.

I'm thinking it....

I'd save my money if I were you, but that's just me.
I second what Trae suggests.  When I went to lose weight to join the Air Force a few years back, I skipped the gym membership and did my own thing, alternating between running and calesthenics.  Combining that with some sensible eating, including 2 glasses of grapefruit juice and 1 yougurt a day, I lost over 100 ponds in 1 year! I need to start doing that again.
I miss terribly my old track route, jogging down Clairemont from McPhee towards the river, heading over the footbridge there (which might still be under construction for all I know), then back up the river along the bike path until THE footbridge and back onto campus. I also miss those stairs behind McPhee for those fantastic plyometric workouts. And they replaced all those boards a couple of years ago, so I'm fairly certain they won't just rot and split under your feet (any more). The deep-seated irony of having to drive to a fitness club in order to work out has kept me from getting such a membership. Added to the aforementioned route, the Ade Olsen addtion and the weight room proved more than adequate for me. But I suppose that's a combination of (track) tradition and personal taste. ~Sean
