The Monday Morning Review
Posted Mar 27, 2006 - 9:36:18

WallSo, I'm back in Eau Claire - as I have been since yesterday afternoon. The week in Milwaukee was a nice break from the daily grind, and much recharging occured.

On Thursday I went down and saw my Grandfather (who is recovering from brain surgery in the hospital). To be honest, it was a little unnerving - not because it wasn't nice to see my Grandfather, but because hospitals just freak me out. I know it's silly, but I just can't help it. I can't feel relaxed in a hospital, and it's never fun. On the upside though, my Grandfather has been recovering fairly well - he has a catheter for, well, the peeing at the moment - but he's not really getting confused anymore. So, yeah - his mental recovering is fine.

Which was a relief. There's nothing scarier than the idea that someone you love won't recognize you.

Anyway, on Friday I went to Vanessa's birthday party, which was pretty fun. Much strange movies were watched and much cake was eaten. A cake that said "Dead Babies." Why? I have no idea - and I'm the one who suggested we write it on the cake. It's just one of those things that should never be written on a Birthday cake - so of course, that means that I had to make sure it happened. Afterwards, Derek and I sat down at a George Webb's for a while and had a good talk. It was nice, and much discussed. Derek and I had several discussions in that Webb's this week - including figuring out some of the details for No Brand Con's sword fighting tournaments, which Derek will be running. We shall be prepared this year - yar.

On Saturday I hung out with my brother and Mary (his girlfriend, for those who were unaware). David, Mary and I all played Boggle for several hours, and it was nice to be able to talk to my younger sibling. He's been accepted into most of the Lawschools he applied to, and now he has to make a choice between them. In anycase though, we had fun - and for the most part managed to avoid the fighting that Boggle usually inspires.

Did I mention I won the game? Yeah, I should mention that. *grins*

So, bright and early Sunday morning the road was hit, and I made my return to the glories of the lands of Clear Waters... yeah. Whenever I go back to Milwaukee, I am reminded as to how clear the air is back here in Eau Claire. It really is an incredible difference. I spent the rest of Sunday at Erika's, as we'd been across the state from each other for a week. It's been a while since we've had a whole lot of alone time, as we've both been incredibly busy lately. The sad thing is, we're both just going to get busier as time goes by.
