To update...
There have been interesting things happening. The first of which is that there is a category 1 hurricane headed this way. It's not large enough to evacuate the island but it is large enough for everyone to concern for the welfare of the turtle nests. It was rather disappointing because I was hoping to see some major hurricane destruction to the multi-million dollar tourist home along the beach. You might think that this is an awful thing to wish for, however there are few more items to take into consideration. One of which is that these are not "homes" merely tourist rentals which reside direct on beach causing an outrageous amount of pollution and environmental destruction because the houses prevent the island and beach from expanding. There are many factors to this statement but I will put it in brief. With the tourists living in the rental a week at a time and the high revenue it makes there is a great deal of stress to keep these houses accessible which means that the dunes separating the houses from the beach are constantly being built up. A constant stream of bulldozers pushes more sand on dunes as an on going process. This then affects the beach because the wind pushes the sand over the dunes and over time this builds on the back side of the island expanding it into the sound further. This natural process has stopped and thus the islands are shrinking and the beaches are disappearing. So, in order for the entire chain of the Outer Banks islands to survive all the large monstrosities called houses need to be moved or demolished.
To continue, one of my roommates moved out and into (we assume) one of the park rangers houses. This all came about because she was asked to move to another island that needed more personal help. However, before she left there was quite the controversy because she showed my other roommate and me some rather pornographic pictures of herself and then proclaiming the guy that took the pictures is someone she really wants to “F*** their brains out”. Well it got back to aforementioned guy that she told who took the pictures and henceforth he has been (putting it mildly) rather cold to her. So at 11:30 at night I get a call from the roommate crying, yelling, and swearing at me that I ruined everything for her with him. Why? Because she wasn’t suppose to tell anyone who took the pictures. However, his behavior denotes that it is just an excuse to be rid of her rather promiscuous presence. I say this because he took the pictures of her while she was drunk and while they were both at a large beach party where there were obviously other people around who saw him take the pictures. So, my old roommate who is pissed at me (don’t ask me why) then calls me up at 11 am the next morning while I am at work and I get to listen to rants of how “…I can’t ‘get’ with him now”, and “…how could you do this to me?”, as well as “…why is he being so mean to me?”. So after hearing how he’s been acting to her I’ve convinced her that he’s being a jerk and she deserves better to which she replied, “…I don’t care, I just wanted to &*!%@%@$^%&^*#!@ his !@$#* brains @#$*$ out!”. This is no exaggeration people. So, my other roommate and I have been more than entertained lately.
The previous weekend my roommate Shaheen (the non-crazy one) and I went kayaking with the paddlers club and it ended up being a good 8mile paddle. To my surprise my arms weren’t even sore afterward.
I also have another weird incident involving a friend from work. I had met his mother not too long ago along with several of my other co-workers and roommate. Just this last Sunday I was invited by his mother to attend their family reunion in Kentucky/Tennessee. Don’t ask me why or who or what….just don’t ask. Needless to say I’m not going because I’m still even a little uncomfortable around Trae’s nuclear family functions at times. This invitation did give birth to many new questions in my mind about my friend but for my own sanity I chose not to admit these questions exist.
On the up side, several of us are going to see a good band tonight and eat dinner together. A regular ‘chick night’. It should be a pretty entertianing night. The previous chick night we had we decided to ride our bikes down to the small bluegrass music festival in the middle of town and partake in the free wine tasting. The ride home on the bikes was probably the funniest thing I've ever seen because my roommate ahead of me managed to crash twice into bushes on the side of the road (please keep in mind that she was not blitz just warmed up and she was the worst off out of the three of us). After crawling out of her second encounter with a bush she stood up and looked at me with big doe eyes and ask me, "...where are my shoes?". The bush decided to take a little momento from her.
I’ve also installed another upgrade of the ArcMap 9.1 which I am currently teaching myself how to work. It’s going well because the maps are getting better and another one of my maps is going to be up on the government website on Monday.
So, that is all for now. Talk back and I’ll catch ya’ll later.

You know, I again have to say, "Your (former) roommate is f***ed up beyond all belief."

I wouldn't invite you to a family reunion just yet myself, and I'm your boyfriend. Of course, that's mostly because I love you too much to subject you to my extended family. :P
I do have to add that I find it amusing that Seaside Rental Homes now keep showing up in the ads. :P
