Yes, the Page Really Did Load Faster This Time.
Posted July 14, 2004 - 22:46:33

Hooray for the Triple A!So, I did something that this website has needed me to do for quite some time... make it load faster.

I've done this by changing the way I syndicate the feeds of my friend's websites. Before, every time you loaded the mainpage of this site, it would check each feed and read the headlines realtime, while your computer loaded the page. This means you were loading seven different sites at once, slowing down the page dramatically.

Now I have changed it to a new system where the site caches the feeds once an hour on its own. Now it's only loading from essentially one place, speeding up load time dramatically. If you were on cable modem, DSL, or any other kind of broadband you won't notice the difference. Dialup users will see a huge difference though.

I may add a "friends" page, ala Live Journal... but I probably won't. That would make me far too trendy or something.

Not that anyone cares...

I've bought batteries for my digital camera (as pictured), so I can finally give you guys some shots that aren't stock photos or worse... taken in my room.

Variety is the spice of life, eh?

You guys should tune into the Today Show and/or the NBC Nightly News tomorrow, because my little brother David will be on one of them. NBC followed my brother around the other day, while he was working. For those of you who don't know, my brother is the Milwaukee director for the New Voters Project. And while it's true that I no longer work there, it's still a really cool project that I encourage everyone to support. Since Milwaukee is one of the Project's biggest offices, they chose to do the story here. I don't know if it will be on in the morning tomorrow, or the evening... but I'm tuning into both.
