Waking from Dreams, and Wanting to go Back to Sleep.
Posted May 7, 2004 - 9:41:31

A better place is in dreams of greener worldsI slept in a pleasant doze last night, not leaving my dreams when my first alarm rang, but incorporating them into it. Fortunately for me, said dream convinced me that it was later than it was, and I jumped out of bed... only to find I had another twenty minutes worth of time that I could be sleeping.

While today seems brighter, Eli's presence still seems to loom just past the horizon, ready to rear it's ugly head in a darkened roar. And apparently, it's not just coming for me.

According to Leo Laporte's blog yesterday, TechTV's merger with G4 is claiming more victims. 285 workers got laid off yesterday, and only 100 people will be given jobs at the new network, assuming they're willing to relocate to Los Angeles. Now, I don't care what you think about TechTV, even though I am a big fan of it myself. I don't mind losing my entertainment, what annoys me is that this is yet another couple hundred people who are now unemployed in our craptastic economy. If only Quo Vadimus were real, to show up and save the day... (look, two Sports Night references in the same post, yay.) I'm assuming that the majority of the retained staff will be upper level producers/directors and on air talent. But my question is, what happens to Bob the camera guy? He's got to now go start typing up his resume. I bet he has a family to feed too.

Maybe I'm just too compassionate for this crap. This is why I need to stay away from the business world, because I'd just feel the need to hit overpaid executives who fire qualified people in the name of useless downsizing upside the head.

Ah well, nothing I can do but bitch about it. Tonite is my last night of freedom for the weekend, as I plan on essentially camping out in the MacIntyre library for most of Saturday and Sunday to work on my Majstorovic paper. It's due in a week, and I haven't started it at all. I figure if I do some massive research this weekend though, I can put together something well thought out without a problem.

Let's hope at least, eh?
