Sailing Airship

So in today's comic for The Chronicles of Crosarth we have a brief flashback describing Hayworth's father, Captain Ignatious Kellin, and in it we see Kellin's airship.

Figuring out the look I wanted for that thing took a while. I actually went through several concepts (including some steam powered variations) before settling on the wind powered version you see above.

I went for "looks cool" over function with this one, which is why that ridiculous rudder is on there, and I'm going to have to do some creative justification for both it and the aerodynamics in general... but hey, it looks cool.

And looking cool is all that matters some days.

It would look cooler if there was a prop in the back of the balloon to make look faster but that's my opinion.
Well, the idea is that it's a sailing vessel -- so there's no engine on that thing at all.
Hey, its the Weatherlight!

Little different. Mine could actually, y'know, fly. :P
And the Weatherlight can't? Seems weird, with the clouds and all.
Well, mine has a big envelope full of lighter than air gas, while I see nothing like that on the Weatherlight :)
It has magic.

Your dirigible, does it have a lightweight gondola? It looks like hardwood. That would make buoyancy tough

I also don't see any propulsion system. See, those sails - they wouldn't do much good, what with the "big envelope full of lighter than air gas."
...sails are for catching wind. You know, like a sailboat. They are the propulsion.
The balloon will do the same thing. More so than the sails. Essentially, it would just go in the direction of the wind. With sails you can tack to go a different direction, but you can;t do that with a balloon.
In the image it may not be obvious, but those sails are furled. They can get much bigger. They also have the ability to turn, so the craft can tack.
