Summer and Random Drives
Posted June 1, 2011 - 9:35:43

CIMG0233.jpgIt's been absolutely beautiful out these last few days. Honestly, it's a bit disconcerting, because I'm accustomed to terrible weather at this point, and bright sunny days in the 80s and 90s are not in my normal mental weather vocabulary anymore. I mean, c'mon, Summer is a mythical thing like Unicorns, Dragons and funny episodes of Two and a Half Men, right? None the less, the weather decided to be gorgeous, so I've been enjoying it.

And by enjoying it, I mean "sit in my office working, annoyed I can't be outside."

Well, that's not entirely true. Sunday and Monday, on which I didn't have to work, were both spectacular out. On Sunday, Crysta and I decided to get in the car, pick a rural highway, and just drive it for a while. We picked highway 231 and took it south about 50 miles before turning around. Amazingly, about 35-40 miles into the trip Indiana, amazingly, got incredibly pretty.

I'm not kidding.

Rolling hills, woods, and greenery surrounded the car. It wasn't quite Wisconsin pretty, but it was actually quite nice. The small towns we went through were pretty cool as well, and honestly if it weren't for the fact that we'd have to eventually turn around... and we were likely going to get hungry at some point.

Random drives like that though are a lot of fun, even if they're altogether pointless. One of these days I'll plan a route that's a circle though, so we don't have to see the same scenery on the way back. Yes, it's a bit funny that I'd do something like this while gas prices are high - but heck, we've got a fuel efficient vehicle and the tank was already mostly full... so yeah.

Irresponsible fun won out in this case.

So, right now, Crysta and I have explored by going due East and due South... so West and North are all that remain for us to seek out. It's a long summer though, and we'll have the time.

Taking random drives are fun. I have attempted doing that a few times but it doesn't seem to workout well. That's why instead I take the backroad to Siren WI because that is equally beautiful to see.
You could always come out to DC :) That's pretty too!
