This morning I had to wake up early. It was super early in fact. See, Crysta's class was starting early, and I also had to start work a half hour earlier than normal too. But there was one more factor: I had to pick up a rental car.
This is because tonight and tomorrow, I'm making a bit of a trip - to Milwaukee and back. See, Crysta's Dad is going to move later this month, and we have furniture still stored at his house. This means I need to rent a small truck to pick up the furniture and drive it back to Lafayette. Annoyingly, UHaul doesn't give an option for a long distance rental that is returned to the same city the truck leaves... so a plan needed to be hatched.
The plan is as follows: I rent a car, drive to Milwaukee. I then drop off the car there Friday night. On Saturday morning, I pick up a UHaul and load it up - driving back to Lafayette that night.
(And yes, I could have taken the bus to Milwaukee... but I hate the bus, and it would have been a hassle, and saving myself the hassle is worth the extra money.)
So, part one of this plan is completed - I have picked up the rental car. It's a Toyota, and thankfully it has an input jack so I can play podcasts while I drive. I still need to pack, but I'll be doing that throughout the day.
This is also going to be my first laptop-less trip, as I'll be bringing the shiny new iPad instead. In theory I would do the same for No Brand Con next week, but I need it to hook up to projectors to play the plot videos (as I haven't bothered buying the VGA or HDMI adapters for my iPad yet). It's going to be strange to be carrying so much less stuff with me, but it's also kind of cool.
