There's No Cure For Idiocy
Posted Feb 28, 2011 - 9:44:52

CIMG0404.jpgA dark epidemic is sweeping across the world today, and it's one that (at least today) we have no cure for. While fundraisers and committees exist to help cure or treat every other known ailment, funding is cut daily for treating this world shaking illness.

What I am talking about, of course, is Idiocy.

Idiocy rages on in both Adolescents and Adults at an alarming rate. Current studies show that up to fifty percent of the population may be living with early onset idiocy and not even know it. Unable to calculate tips or understand basic logical reasoning, these sufferers see the world through an intellectual haze.

Researchers have been working around the clock attempting to address idiocy through education, but to no avail. Even today, basic concepts like the scientific method and understanding the difference between the colloquial definition and scientific definition of a word like "theory" are beyond many of our country's populace. On the internet, adolescents and adults alike are ignoring rules of spelling and grammar, not out of rebellion, but out of ignorance.

To this day, there are adults who do not know the difference between "there," "their" and "they're."

While there is no cure, the most frightening part is that the treatments we do have are currently at risk of vanishing as well. One of the best treatments we know, public education, faces constant cuts to its funding. Public Television, home of Sesame Street (a basic treatment for Childhood Idiocy), has it's funding currently under threat by a fiscally "conservative" Congress.

But there is something you can do.

If you want to help fight Idiocy, contact your City, County, State and Federally elected officials. Tell them "No, I don't want my kids to grow up to be f*cking idiots." Demand that we fund education in our country. Demand that we fund Public Television. Make teaching a high paying career so we can attract the best teachers.

Make our world a better place by helping stop idiocy in its tracks.

Amen to that!
It's the biggest public health threat since the mob mentality epidemic of the 50's.
To this day, there are adults who do not know the difference between "there," "their" and "they're."

The worst crime is the people who insist that the difference does not matter and anyone who cares is a card carrying member of the German national socialist party, grammar division.

Speaking of public television if you can't get your elected official of choice to listen (seems to be a common issue these days...) there's always the fund it yourself option.  WPR is in a funding drive right now and I think WPT is probably coming up on one soon.  They are however, always looking for additional support.

Now I just need to see if anyone has done such things for schools...
Well I do try to attempt to fix my own idiocy here and there. But I know it sucks that we can't fund education. All the Right Wingers insist Privatizing the school would mean better education but they forget many smaller communities can't afford to privatize their schools.
Ok, Scifi...that made me laugh rather loud.
