The Morning After (No Brand Con)
Posted May 3, 2010 - 9:14:44

UnCONventional? So it's the morning after No Brand Con 2010, and I'm sitting here still rather amazed by it all. I'll have a full con report up as soon as possible, but I figured I'd serve up some highlights first.

The plot actually completed without any major screw ups, and I think people liked it a lot. I was told by one person it was a little anti-climactic, but honestly it was actually a logical conclusion (unlike some of the other storylines we've done for the convention). Of course, as per usual I hosted lots of stuff and ran myself ragged. But unlike previous years, I remembered to drink water so my voice while hoarse still actually exists.

And yes, the photo that accompanies this post is Cheesus cosplaying Lynn from UnCONventional during the cosplay contest. I (of course in the ninja mask) had no idea that she was going to come out in that.

I did in fact lose it completely for several minutes. When you're in front of a thousand people you're not expecting someone to come out dressed up as a character from your own obscure webcomic.

Not everything went perfectly of course. Chief, who does a ton of work for our video game room, fell down some stairs and dislocated a bone in his foot and broke a rib on Friday night. Some congoers also were running around in the parking garage with realistic looking gun props, and the police were called... and showed up in full gear with weapons drawn. From what I hear this happened again on Sunday to some congoers at a separate hotel they were staying at. We've never seen this happen before, but needless to say we're banning realistic gun props next year.

If you hear something loud, it was merely my palm hitting my face.

But accidental injuries and a few terrifying but short run ins with the police aside, No Brand Con 2010 was an unequivocal success in my book. It was my last year to be full fledged staff (I will still return next year to help out, but I'm not doing all of the pre-convention work from Indiana obviously), and I think that it turned out great.

More details about it later though.
