The Complete Fanboy Archive
Posted Apr 16, 2010 - 9:15:46

Vanity Press Presents FanboyI know I talked a lot about defunct local comics zine Fanboy quite a bit back on Monday, but I'm going to talk about it a little more today as well.

I linked to an offsite archive of the entire publication, but anyone who doubted that I wouldn't then make my own backup copy (with Fanboy creator David Recine's consent) clearly doesn't know me that well. So, without further ado, I am proud to announce The Complete Archive of Vanity Press' Fanboy.

There you will find every issue of the publication in PDF form. I've also attempted to list the credits for each issue, along with any major milestones. If I missed anyone, or misspelled anyone's name, someone should let me know. I've also attempted to list some major milestones on the issue archive. These are just the ones that popped into my head while I was putting the archive together, and I appreciate any additions.

The zine is a dying artform, and one that I will always remember with affection. I think the principle is still alive in certain corners of the web, but nothing can replace the gritty feel of photocopied pages found in the back of a bar, cafe or comics shop. I waxed a bit nostalgic on Monday, but I can't help but continue to feel the need to do it at every turn.

I'll stop now, I promise.

I think this website has a lot in comic with the random zines of old (heck, it was only founded one year after Fanboy launched), and I feature a lot of weird and random stuff here. Over the years, between the webpages I've hosted for other people and things like TRHBlogs, I have attempted to encourage other people to contribute and utilize this site for their own stuff.

Of course, like the zines, the only constant contributer ends up being the guy running the shindig...

...but I digress. In the end, I hope that in my small part I'm helping keep the spirit of the zine alive with my random corner of the internet. It may not be a pile of photocopies at the Joynt, but hey -- it's something.
