Mexican Coca Cola
Posted Sep 14, 2009 - 18:07:28

Mexican CokeAh, Bottles of Mexican Coca Cola... what a wonderful thing. When I mentioned it on Facebook, someone asked me if it was a euphemism for something... but no, I was just talking about Mexican Coke.

For those who might be unaware, in Mexico Coca Cola is made with Cane Sugar instead of High Fructose Corn Syrup. Now I'm not one of those people who gets all freaked out about High Fructose Corn Syrup, but it does change the flavor slightly. At some point, someone had the brilliant idea though to import Coke from Mexico because they wanted corn-free Coke. Maybe they were paranoid about High Fructose Corn Syrup, maybe they just wanted the taste, or maybe they just like the classic glass bottles it comes in -- but they did it.

You can actually find it all over the place these days. Even my local grocery store stocks it -- albeit by the Mexican food and nowhere near the rest of the soda. Well, one of my relatives (I think my Aunt, but it could have been one of the other two people she drove with) brought a case to my sister's wedding shower this weekend at my parent's house. As Crysta attended, I was also in Milwaukee for it... and when there was a bunch left over...

...I snagged it. Now I have a whole bunch in my "soda fridge" in the living room.

Sometimes life is good.

While I was in Milwaukee (which I convolutedly mentioned a few sentences ago) Crysta and I had lunch with Anna and her husband Mike. I hadn't seen them since their wedding back in 2006, and it was nice to actually catch up for a while. Well, that and they paid for lunch -- and I never pass up a free lunch. Chris was busy at a friend's wedding (the theme here is marriage apparently) so I didn't get a chance to hang out with him though.

In a couple weeks Crysta and I are going back down to Milwaukee to scout wedding sites. We've narrowed it down to a couple that we want to look at, and now we need to go look at them in person. Hopefully we'll like what we see.
