Sixth Wicca Essay Up.
Posted Sep 23, 2008 - 12:04:15

Ethical MagickSo, again it's a Tuesday, and we know what happens on Tuesdays. What happens on Tuesdays you ask? On Tuesdays I post another essay to the Wicca section of the website. This particular entry is called Ethical Magick and is about the considerations every Wiccan must make when spellcrafting.

It's funny, I had originally planned to write an entirely different essay for this week, and I have a few paragraphs of it done even. Originally, I had planned a much less serious piece about having a sense of humor about oneself, and sense of play in everything we do. I'll probably end up writing that one for next week, but I just couldn't move forward on it this morning no matter how much I tried.

After the whole FastSpells.com nonsense, the idea of ethics within spellcasting and how people could be so easily convinced that a scam artist like that could somehow be connected to genuine Wicca just kept cropping up in my mind. So, I sat down and started writing my thoughts on Ethics in Magick... and ended up with something that I actually liked.

I think it's an important topic to cover, and I think I would recommend it as a read for anyone starting out on a Wiccan path...

...or anyone who has ever considered casting (or even buying... bleah) any sort of spell. I still can't get over the idea that people are buying spellcasting from other people. That's just so ridiculous to me on every single level.

Yesterday was Mabon, and I know I didn't make a big deal out of it on the website, but that doesn't mean I didn't think about it. One of the essay ideas on the docket for the future is going to be the importance of the Sabbats in our modern day and age, and how the spirit of these celebrations is more important the more separated from nature we become.

Or something.

I'm not sure yet.

I'm thinking about posting another Funny Video this week, culled from unused footage from Vinnk's Reception. I don't know if I'll get around to it immediately, but be on the lookout for it. I think it will be funny... because, at least to me, people making asses out of themselves is hilarious. And yes, there will be a Fifth Squashing of America sometime this Fall, probably over STEAK weekend when Topher is in town. I look forward to our annual vegetable giving/making fun of drunk college students excursions, and I think this year's will be quite excellent.

Humor is the whole point of things after all.
