We need to teach these kids some etiquette.
Posted Feb 27, 2007 - 20:03:16

Why do people think that just because they can't be seen directly, that it's okay to act like a jackass to other people online? Okay, so in this case, the guy's not a kid - as he's 22... but I stand by my subject line for his maturity. But I've gotten way ahead of myself, and I think I'll start from the beginning.

Now, as many of you know, I enjoy goofing around on LiveVideo, and have made myself the personal challenge of becoming the most "friended" male user (besides William Shatner). It's a fun little challenge, and I find it to be an entertaining diversion. Anyway, I sent a friend request to a user who I will call "C.B." for the purposes of this entry. Within a few hours, I got this message back:
From: C.B.
To: Traegorn
Subject:k

I'll be your friend but you need a new avatar
LV AvatarNow, I was a bit confused, thinking "What could be wrong with my avatar?" (Pictured right), so I simply replied:
From: Traegorn
To: C.B.
Subject:RE: k

What on earth is wrong with a nerf gun?
I left it at that, thinking that maybe I had just encountered someone who was anti-toy gun. They're out there, so I just figured it wasn't a big deal. I then received this back from him:
From: C.B.
To: Traegorn
Subject:RE: k

What's wrong with a nerf gun? -_-
I was puzzled at this reply. I mean, maybe he had just forgotten his earlier comment, and I had confused him. So, I wrote a simple reply:
From: Traegorn
To: C.B.
Subject:RE: k

You said I needed a new avatar.

My avatar is me with a nerf gun.

So, it begged the question of what was wrong with my avatar - and since my avatar will contain me no matter what, the only part that can be in question is the nerf gun aspect.

So, I simply asked, what was wrong with it which would make you tell me that I needed a new avatar?
I also took this opportunity to look closer at C.B.'s profile. Apparently, C.B. is 22, a bit of a Japanophile, and, this is the best part, a fan of Naruto. Everyone who knows me knows what I think about that (If you're confused, I think that if you're under the age of 18, there is nothing wrong with being a Naruto fan... after that age, you should only like it if it's for nostalgia... and it hasn't been around long enough for anyone to get to that point). Anyhow, a day passes, and I get this back from C.B.:
From: C.B.
To: Traegorn
Subject:RE: k

k. I was just saying this because ofmthe down right fact in which you do not look good enough to be an avatar. Even if it is for your own account file
Holy. Farkin'. Crap.

Did he just say that? I mean, who says that? I should also note that C.B. has no images of himself on his profile -- and those are the people who always make trouble. I was honestly more taken a back than insulted... Honestly, I think I was a little more amused than anything. So, I replied quite simply:
From: Traegorn
To: C.B.
Subject:RE: k

Wow, you're a bit of an asshole, aren't you.
I speak the truth. I also figured this would be the end of it, as people like this rarely keep pushing if they don't get a massive rise out of someone. It's like bopping a puppy on the nose - they know not to keep chewing the remote. I figured that maybe the guy would unfriend me, and life would move on really... but C.B. decided to go weird on me:

Subject:RE:k

You realy don't have a life do you. YOu probably live in your mom's basement playing gay computer games all day
Huh wha? Honestly, guy, you have at your disposal the last five months of my life documented in detail, and that's what you come up with? I'm... I think I'm disappointed in the guy. I mean - that's all I get? The "you must live with your parents" line? So, I decided to send him this to end it:
From: Traegorn
To:C.B.
Subject:RE:k

Yes, I clearly have no life. Of course. I must live in my mother's basement, and those guy on guy video games must really do it for me. Everything makes sense now - thank you for enlightening me. My life is truly sad.

Oh well, at least I'm better than the Naruto fans...

But seriously dude, you called me ugly out of nowhere. If you don't see how that's assholish, you clearly have no social skills.

Have a nice night.
I think that's where things will end, although I'll keep you guys appraised of the situation. Hehe "situation"... it's so funny to watch these kids try to get my goat - I mean, I'm a fairly open guy, I can't be shamed, and am far more tenacious than they are... but they always feel the need to try.

But why do people think this sort of behavior is okay? I mean, would this guy do something like this to my face? I'm 6'3" and weigh 240lbs. I'm not a small guy...

...ah well. Such is life.

Trae, what he talkin' bout?  You're so sexy you'd make Hanzo the razor f*@k his rice!

Trae, it sounds to me like that C.B's the one who plays the gay PC games.
To be fair, I can't seem to stop playing Chou-aniki...
