Of peaceful night walks and quiet days.
Posted May 6, 2006 - 23:30:27

FootbridgeSo, I just got back from a nice, quiet walk around town. I went around some of the nearby neighborhood, and down onto Putnam park and sat down on the rock. I used to take these walks all of the time, they act as a meditation of a sort. Sitting quietly for a while in darkness, by the river on the rock at the end of the "Little Niagara" stream, where it falls into the Chippewa River... it's liberating, calming, and really, really, really makes me feel good.

For some reason I stopped taking these walks a couple of years ago, and I'm really not sure why.

Partway on my walk I strolled down Water Street. What I first thought, as the drunken college students screamed and staggered down the concrete path, was that I had outgrown all of that. Then I realized that I had never been into that scene. I mean, sure, I've hung out in bars - but they were places like The Joynt. Hole in the wall, laid back places - not the whole loud, intensity driven scene. Give me a quiet evening with good conversation any day.

I went running today for the first time since last September. I was doing three miles a day back then. Needless to say, I didn't run three miles today. I ended up running about two miles (it's a rough estimate - on my route the only clear markers are 1.5 miles and 3 miles). I will tell you that I felt incredibly good afterwards (bless you endorphins), but my legs are probably going to be fairly grumpy with me tomorrow. Very, very grumpy.

With all of that running and walking today, I'm looking forward to kicking back early tonight. I've downloaded the newest Doctor Who episode, and I plan on enjoying that shortly. Nothing like kicking back to some good science fiction to end a bizarre week.

Just a slight note for TRHBlogs users - I've added a slight adjustment to the bottom of entry pages. Now you'll find a "Next Entry" and "Previous Entry" button, so if you just want to page through entries you don't have to go through the archive page over and over again.

Now, time to jump into the Tardis...
