So, there's this tree that used to be in front of my parent's house. It's been there my entire life, and I've always loved it.
Ten years ago or so, one of my brother's friends hit it with a baseball bat, and created a small crack in the tree. It didn't appear to be a big deal, but it was the death knell for my tree. See, that little crack grew, year after year. Slowly, and gradually, it grew large enough to alert the city.
Now, this was two years ago. For two years, we've known that the city was going to kill our tree. Apparently, the city is so backed up on tree maintenance/murder that it took them two years to finally get someone out to take care of it. According to the guy who the city sent to cut it down, the tree would probably actually be fine for another ten years, but that the city was concerned with the liability (as it is on our parkway, and technically the City's tree). So we didn't have any choice but to let them cut it down (the guy who cut it down seemed to feel pretty bad about it too, but he had to do his job... it's not his fault).
So, that's what started my day. Yeesh.
Anyways, last night I ended up playing Halo 2 for five straight hours with Derek and Chris, which was actually quite a bit of fun. I'm really the worst player between the three of us, but I'm finally getting the hang of the game I think. Or, in other words, I'm actually killing people successfully. Derek also gave me a new Nerf Gun as a Holiday gift, and that was pretty cool. It's a six shot revolver, and I plan on putting it to good use.
But I'm still mad the city cut down my tree...
