Just Because Yesterday was Crappier than Today, It Doesn't Mean Today Wasn't Crappy Too.
Posted June 11, 2004 - 0:45:55

There's something artistic about this...Things aren't that bad, and I'm feeling pretty good tonight. I want to make that absolutely clear before I launch into tonight's tirade. I just find the last 24 hours smoking with a pinch of irony that makes the mind twitch. But, again, I'm fairly optimistic about what tomorrow will bring. Tomorrow is a good thing. But I'm not here to talk about tomorrow. I'm here to talk about today.

Okay, so today was not that good of a day, but it was considerably better than the shitty day I had yesterday. Today I mostly just stood outside in the rain, a lot.

See, it was raining today. As the Milwaukee Summer canvass for New Voters Project is just starting, we don't have a lot of alternate sites for bad weather lined up. In fact, we when I got to work today, it turns out we had none. So, rather than call the day a wash, the team I was assigned to today was sent out to our location in the god forsaken rain. Let me tell you, after the first ten minutes of standing in rain, attempting to get someone to stop for the five minutes to register to vote clearly solidifies itself as a pipe dream. Not only that, but attempting to keep your paperwork DRY becomes damned near impossible.

After a few hours, you start considering beating your head into a wall until the world seems brighter.

Needless to say, it was not a pleasant experience. At least I was working with cool people, as Alix was our team captain (I've worked with her before, but never with her as a captain), and a newer guy Brandon was with us as well. Eventually, thanks to Brandon's suggestion, we moved to the UWM Student Union, where we got most of our registrations for the day. Needless to say, I was thankful to be dry more than anything else... along with becoming thankful that I could feel my hands again.

Tomorrow I'm going to work outside Asian Moon Festival probably, either that or the Brewer Game. I'll go where I'm sent, and kick some ass there, but I don't want to have a single digit turn in ever a-frickin'-gain. Yeesh. Oh yeah, and Alix got a parking ticket while we were canvassing, so that's not good either.

Ah well, things for me really aren't all that bad. Heck, at least it was Alix getting the parking ticket, and not me. I know that's a horrible thing to say, but it's true.

Tomorrow will be good, and if it isn't, then Saturday will be. And if Saturday sucks, then Sunday will be awesome.

Eventually, I will get one of these days right again. *grin*
