Strange Conversations With my Mother, and Other Such Nonsense
Posted May 9, 2004 - 17:55:41

So, I just got off the phone with my mom. I called her up to wish her a happy Mother's Day because I am, in fact, not a lousy son. I'm such the good son, that I actually talked to her about things going on in my life.

Uh, that might have been a mistake. Why? Because I mentioned the possible controversy my upcoming Flipside article may generate. Again, I don't think we're going to see a huge problem here on the site, but I may have offended people who are usually on my side with this article. Well, it turns out my mother has the opposing oppinion with me - which is no big deal. What it did mean though is that she and I had a debate on the topic for about forty-five minutes over the phone. I have never used the word "Pussy" in front of my mother before, and I pray that I never will again. *shiver*

Carrot in my, in my, in my...In yesterday's post I neglected to mention that one of the programs we'd watched at Otaku Anonymous on Friday was the classic Ping Pong Club. If you've never seen Ping Pong Club, then you are not a true Otaku in my opinion. Sure, it's full of crass, childish humor, but it's also full of random cultural references and subtle societal commentary.

Okay, so it's not really that deep, but it's funny as hell. It's also the only anime series I can think of off the top of my head where the characters actually look Japanese.

But enough about an anime series which so clearly annoys all of you. Yesterday I sat in the library for about four hours, and was only mildly productive. I was going to go down again today, but I think I'm going to stay up the hill instead. Maybe I'll do some research online, and look at the electronic reserves rather than go down the hill in person. I seems as though the UWEC library has more electronic texts on my topic than paper ones anyway, so there really isn't a need for me to go down the hill.

I feel a Pro-Mozilla vibe growing deep within me. I know, about once year I go and rant for an entire entry about how stupid it is for someone to still be using Internet Explorer when such great alternatives exist (Mozilla, Firefox, Opera, and Safari on the Mac), but I won't this year. This year, I'm just going to assume that anyone smart enough to use a non-IE browser is, and that apparently 90% of my viewers are scared to abandon Microsoft's ungainly beast of a browser.

Don't you see? This is me giving up on you. You should feel ashamed.
