Morbid Thoughts, Strange Dreams, and Nuclear Disasters
Posted Mar 28, 2004 - 10:29:24

I went to John's funeral yesterday. Yeah. I don't really want to dig too much into that, so I'll move into the update some more.

I let myself sleep for 15 hours or so... I hadn't gotten much sleep these last few nights, and since I had nothing to do on Saturday night, and I fell asleep watching TV around 6pm... so when I woke up around 10pm, I decided that I may as well go to sleep. Anyways, this caused me to have some very strange dreams. Very very strange dreams.

Well, they were dreams so strange that they made me think about this site. It's the story of a 24 year old Elena, as she rides her motorcycle through the Chernobyl "Dead Zone". She took plenty of photos along the way, and it's very interesting, and slightly morbid, to say the least. It's sometimes a little difficult to read, because she's a native Russian speaker, and it looks like her translation was machine generated, but the pictures are just incredible. Defintely worth a good chunk of your time to see.

Also, it's probably a timely site to look at, considering that today is the 25th anniversary of Three Mile Island, our own little nuclear faux pau. When I look at Elena's site, I can't help but think about how bad Three Mile Island could have been, and how lucky we all are.

I've been listening a lot to "The Black Mages" these last few days, and they're definitely worth a listen for everyone. The Black Mages is a rock band put together by Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu, and perform various pieces from Final Fantasy in a slightly more hard rock style than you're used to hearing. *grin*. I've been listening to the Boss theme from FFIV repeatedly for the last few days. If you want to give them a listen, here's a site with the entire album for download. I know, I'm antipiracy - but since there hasn't been a legal US release of the album, importing that is gray market anyways. If they release it stateside, I promise to buy it. How's that?

Well, that's it for today's update I think. Tomorrow, I tackle first amendment issues, and other fun stuff. But, for now, I think I'm going to get up and have some breakfast. Oh yeah, and someone tell Gabe from Penny Arcade that if he ever shows up in my dreams again, I'm kicking his ass...
